Zumajim

For the past couple of weeks, the huge grass-covered hill in front of Pepperdine University was being prepared for some kind of display. There was a grid of thousands of small red paper markers arranged in two banks, one hugging the PCH side, the other along Malibu Canyon Road. Today, the mysterious project was revealed:

It’s hard to believe that the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon were seven years ago today. Like you, I’ll never forget that morning. It was supposed to be a happy day, as it was also our eighth wedding anniversary.

If you’re in the area, please come by and visit this memorial. I wandered through it this morning for almost an hour. I think I’ll stop by again tonight.

The weather in Malibu is appropriately gray and cold as the kids go back to school this week. At least they don’t seem to mind so much. We had a pretty uneventful summer except for the week in Tahoe. It went by so fast that when people ask, I reply “What summer?”

Work has been on autopilot, which is good. And the Olympics seemed to come and go pretty fast this time. I didn’t spend nearly as much time glued to the TV this year. I dream of taking the family to London in 2012 but that will take some real planning, not to mention cash.

So if this seems a little downcast, it’s because I am. September is supposed to be exciting. This year marks our 15th wedding anniversary — on September 11th. Yeah, it has a different vibe these past seven years, but that’s not our fault. I got tickets to see Wicked at the Pantages Theater on the 16th as a present. Not sure what else to do. I guess I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed.  Catch me next time.
