April’s Fool

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Well here it is. Fifty years. 50. Five-Oh. Cinquante. Big deal.

There must be some minor cosmic joke about having your birthday on April 1. I sure don’t get it. I’ve never been a big fan of birthday celebrations past 16 years. (Who cares at that point? Just the government, right?) Forty was made into a big deal since my cousin Diane was born the day after me. Our celebrations were combined and since she’s a lot more popular than me it was a big crowd and very embarrassing. This is better, but I miss my cousin who now lives in Carlsbad. Won’t be seeing any other family members tonight either. Things are a bit chilly in that regard, but I’m not going into that here.

Here at the office no one has said a word. Not even an email from the HR department. No offers to go to lunch. That’s the way I like it. I’m bailing out early to catch most of Tristan’s little league game at 4:00. Looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner with some new friends at Yamato Sushi in Agoura Hills tonight. Mmm….

I’m still 18 years old at heart. That’s what counts.
